The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) awards ten (10) scholarships each year, each worth $1,000, through its Project SHARE Scholarship Program. BPUB sends the funds for the awarded recipients directly to the applicable Financial Aid Office for disbursement.
The applicant must be a resident of a household that receives utility services from BPUB. The BPUB utility account must be the primary residence of the applicant at the time the scholarship is awarded and have a minimum of one-year utility service with BPUB by the application deadline date. The utility account must be paid up to date and in overall good standing. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior during the 2020 - 2021 school year. Scholarships will be granted to students who are planning to attend an accredited institution of higher education located in the United States of America. All majors qualify.
Application Package Checklist
APPLICATION PACKAGES SUBMITTED AFTER THE DEADLINE OR MISSING ANY OF THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DISQUALIFIED. YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL WE RECEIVE THE ACADEMIC DATA VERIFICATION FORM FROM YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR/ADMINISTRATOR.
- Scholarship Application: Complete and signed application. Resumes will not be accepted.
- List of awards, extracurricular activities, community service and work experience and academic achievements.
- Typed essay between 500-600 words.
- A current copy of the parent or guardian’s BPUB bill or statement of charges.
Fill out the online application. Upload the necessary documents listed above along with your essay. Only online applications will be accepted.
Deadline for Submission
BPUB will accept online scholarship applications until Monday, February 15, 2021, at 5 p.m. local time. BPUB must receive the application packet by the given deadline.
APPLICATIONS NOT RECEIVED BY THE DATE AND TIME SPECIFIED WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. ALL DOCUMENTS INCLUDING ACADEMIC DATA VERIFICATION FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED. IT IS THE APPLICANTS RESPONSIBILITY TO FOLLOW UP WITH THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE SUBMITTED THE ACADEMIC DATA VERIFICATION FORM.
The Brownsville Public Utilities Board will not be responsible in the event that third-party browsers, ISPs or connectivity systems fail to deliver the online application packet to the BPUB by the given deadline.
