BPUB Awards Scholarships to Local Graduating Seniors

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) awarded 10 local high school seniors $2,000 scholarships through its Project SHARE Program for their upcoming studies at accredited higher education institutions this fall.

The Project SHARE Program, initiated in 1985 to assist families with utility bills, has provided financial aid for students living in BPUB-serviced homes since 2005.

“Congratulations and best wishes to all our recipients,” said BPUB General Manager & CEO Marilyn D. Gilbert. “We hope these scholarships inspire them to become the future leaders of Brownsville.”

Students qualified for the scholarship by submitting an application detailing their academic and extracurricular achievements along with a 500-word essay. All recipients must reside in a household that receives BPUB’s electric, water or wastewater services.

Funding for these scholarships is possible through BPUB’s strategic partnerships, with organizations committed to giving back to the community.
